With all of the attention directed on history, how about a refresher on Illinois history? Check out some of the Illinois State Archives that are a part of Secretary of State Jesse White's Cyberdrive Illinois website. It's an awesome treasure trove of history. If you click on the Teaching Packages link, you can find an original map of Chicago, learn about the Illinois-Michigan canal, and find data about residents during the Great Depression.
