Rescheduled Monthly Board Meeting

September 26, 2017

Call to order

The regularly scheduled board meeting on September 19, 2017 did not take place due to lack of a quorum. The meeting was then rescheduled for September 26, 2017, at 6 p.m.

President Jane Gaston called the rescheduled monthly board meeting to order at 6 p.m. with the following trustees present: Jane Gaston, Joyce Hahn, Lynn Larimer, Jane Mordecai, Joyce Raver, Gayla Wilkerson, and Ann Wilzbach. Trustee Tom Champion arrived at 6:30 pm. Trustee Jack McGuire was absent. Also in attendance were Library Director Kim Keller and Assistant Library Director Kim Baldridge. There were no visitors.

Secretary’s Report

The minutes of the August 15, 2017 meeting were approved as presented on a motion by Trustee Wilkerson with a second by Trustee Wilzbach. All present approved.

Treasurer’s Report

The treasurer’s report for September 2017 was presented. A motion to approve the treasurer’s report was made by Trustee Wilkerson with a second by Trustee Wilzbach. All present voted “yes” on roll call.

President Gaston requested an amended asset report for September be presented at the next board meeting.

The bills for September 2017 totaling $19,687.51 were examined and approved on a motion by Trustee Raver with a second by Trustee Mordecai. All present voted “yes” on roll call.

A motion to transfer $14,700  from the Money Market account into the Checking account for the purpose of paying the September 2017 bills was made by Trustee Wilzbach with a second by Trustee Wilkerson. All present voted “yes” on roll call.

Director’s Report

Director Keller gave an update on programs and activities at the library. These include plans for Family Reading Night on October 24, Pumpkin Fun on October 21, a Holiday Reception on December 7, and a Holiday Luncheon for Seniors on December 14. The Friends of the Bryan-Bennett Library will meet on September 28 with featured speaker Keri Randall presenting a program on essential oils. The first Lapsit Story Time was held with featured reader Lynn Larimer on September 22. The next Lapsit will be on October 20. The first pre-school Story Time will be on October 6. Salem readers won Representative John Cavaletto’s Summer Reading Program Pizza Party. An art class has been meeting in the gym on Wednesdays. Grace Nazarene will be starting another book study on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Director Keller will continue to review the security of the Library.

Library staff continues the weeding of the Fiction area and will then start a straightening, shifting and reading effort in the Non-fiction area.

Director Keller was approached by B.C.M.W. about the library being an emergency evacuation site for them. The board gave its approval for this.

Board Members’ Reports

Trustee Hahn has spoken with the lady that reported falling on one of the concrete parking place stops. The woman did seek doctor treatment and will probably present a bill to the library. Director Keller has already been in contact with the woman and with City Hall on the matter. The broken parking place stop was replaced the next day after the fall. Any bills that may be presented should go directly to City Hall.

President Gaston questioned if anyone had heard about bids being requested by the City for the replacement of the steps on the east side entrance.  Director Keller had not been told anything about bids being accepted by City Hall.

Adjournment

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Trustee Champion. All agreed. The meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
